This editing is a more technical review process to correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, fact checking for non-fiction.
Student Services
Student services are offered at reduced rates and all editing notes are elaborated as lessons to empower each student to learn and improve.
Proofreading
Proofreading is copy editing lite. This is just a fresh pair of eyes reading through for typos, errors, and missing or duplicate words.
Children’s Books
Wordage is especially important when writing books for children. Special attention paid to target age range, voice, intent, and readability.
This type of editing comes first. Here we deal with your story as a whole. It’s the big picture. Every writer needs a fresh, objective pair of eyes to help point out problems or missing information. I am checking for plot holes or inconsistencies, analyzing characterization and relationships, story arc, logic involved, basically making sure everything has its place and is in the right place. Some scenes may be completely cut out, or new scenes may need to be added. We are making sure the story in your head matches the words on the page.

At this point, your story itself should be pretty settled. So, here I am looking line-by-line at your word choice, sentence structure, and style of voice. Essentially, I am making sure the words you use really say what you want them to. The reader should not be confused or tripped up by any sentence. I will also make sure there is not too much repetition of the same words.

This is the nitty-gritty. This is the grammar, punctuation, spelling, typo fix up. I am thoroughly checking to make sure you have no technical errors anywhere in your manuscript. This also includes fact-checking if you are writing nonfiction. I typically follow the Chicago Manual of Style (most current edition).

This is basically a fresh, and perhaps last, set of eyes. You have done all the hard work and your story is just about ready to go, but you want to make sure you did not miss any last typos. What I will do here is similar to copy editing, but not as intensive.

You may find yourself wanting to include a group of people in your writing that you may not have firsthand knowledge of. Or maybe you want to include a specific issue you are not personally familiar with. It’s great to be inclusive! But we want to make sure we do it in a respectful manner, aware of the affect of our words. This means not falling into harmful stereotypes, perpetuating misinformation, or assuming we know more than we do. I want to help with genuine, authentic representation of minorities and underrepresented groups of people. As a woman and lesbian with a background in domestic violence and sexual abuse education, and substance abuse education, who has studied religion, gender, and child development, there are many topics I am qualified to offer intersectional perspective on.
