You may find yourself wanting to include a group of people in your writing that you may not have firsthand knowledge of. Or maybe you want to include a specific issue you are not personally familiar with. It’s great to be inclusive! But we want to make sure we do it in a respectful manner, aware of the affect of our words. This means not falling into harmful stereotypes, perpetuating misinformation, or assuming we know more than we do. I want to help with genuine, authentic representation of minorities and underrepresented groups of people. As a woman and lesbian with a background in domestic violence and sexual abuse education, and substance abuse education, who has studied religion, gender, and child development, there are many topics I am qualified to offer intersectional perspective on. For those I am not qualified to assist you with, I am more than happy to help connect you with resources that are.
